Pascal-Henri Poiget - Chateaubriand, a fervent woman

  • (Fourth edition)

Contrary to what his serious image and the morality of his writings, such as Le Génie du christianisme and Atala , might suggest, Chateaubriand was a great seducer. So much so that scandalous rumors weighed on him, from incest to dissolute living, which did not ruin his dual career, political and literary.

However, despite the criticism, rumors and various interpretations, reading and in-depth study of his Mémoires d'Outre-Tombe offers us many keys, sometimes striking ones.

This literary journey allows us to identify both the image of women for Chateaubriand and to better understand the different facets of the writer, an essential personality of the 19th century.
